Camping @ Oceano 20 May 2011

A couple of weeks ago we took advantage of the warm weather and went camping. At first we thought we would camp at this hot springs resort we came across on our previous travels to pismo. It didn't look like much passing by, but we took our chances. It couldn't be worse than crystal hot springs. It was. We get to the resort and without even looking at where the campsites were or what they were about, we walk in and pay for a spot. Upon arriving at our assigned spot, Amanda and I look at each other and know instantly we won't be staying here. We don't even get out of the car. It was like a dirt parking lot with more tent sites then should be there, 1 picnic table for 2 sites, and only a few fire pits scattered around the "campsite"/parking lot. We get back to the lobby not five minutes after we left it and got our refund. Now we are rushing to find a campground before the sun goes down. We rush to Pismo beach north beach campground and they are full. Fortunately the kind man at the gate calls the Oceano Campground and they had one left. Score! So we book it to the campground and set up everything with enough time to walk to the beach and catch the setting sun. Beautiful. The next day we walked around the nearby lagoon and found a few frogs. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon playing on Avila Beach, collecting/saving sanddollars, exploring the tide pools and swimming in the ocean.
